England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt was left emotional and uncertain about her future after her side suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Australia in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Final at Lord’s on Sunday.
In a deeply emotional post-match scene, Sciver-Brunt was seen embracing her wife Katherine and her 15-month-old son Theo on the field shortly after the defeat. Fighting back tears at the press conference, she struggled to hold her emotions together while reflecting on both the match and what lies ahead in her career.
Walking out for the national anthem with her son in her arms,
The 33-year-old admitted it may have been a once-in-a-lifetime moment.“I probably won’t play in a home World Cup again, so having the opportunity to bring Theo out was really special,” Sciver-Brunt said.
“And I’m going to cry… I can’t really tell you how special it is.”

When questioned about her future in international cricket, the England skipper admitted she had not yet made any decisions.
“I haven’t thought about that. I don’t want it to be my last World Cup. I don’t even know when the next one is. I’m living day by day at the moment.”
She also highlighted the importance of family support during emotionally charged moments in her career.
“Family is everything… the support we get from our families, our team, our supporters, it all just means so much. That’s why the emotions are high.”

Despite the heartbreak in the final, Sciver-Brunt’s tournament was filled with highs and challenges. She led England strongly at the start of the campaign with wins over Sri Lanka and Ireland before a calf injury threatened to derail her participation.
- However, she made a remarkable comeback in the semi-final against South Africa,
- Scoring a brilliant 75-run knock to guide England into the final.
- In the title clash, she once again top-scored for her side with a fighting half-century,
- Though it was not enough to prevent defeat.
“It’s been up and down, to be honest,” she said.
“Missing games during a World Cup was tough, but I tried to stay positive and contribute in any way I could.”
Reflecting on her comeback, she added:
“I surprised myself coming back in the semi-final. I’m just immensely proud of what I was able to do, even if it didn’t end the way we wanted.”
England’s campaign ended in disappointment
Sciver-Brunt’s leadership, resilience, and emotional honesty left a lasting impression on the tournament..
