Scotland Women made a dream start to their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a commanding 40-run victory over Ireland Women at Old Trafford, Manchester, on Saturday — securing their first-ever win in the tournament’s history.

Skipper Kathryn Bryce led from the front with a brilliant all-round performance, scoring a fluent 60 off 39 balls and later returning with the ball to take 2/19. She shared the spotlight with her sister Sarah Bryce, as the duo stitched together a match-defining 106-run partnership that lifted Scotland to a competitive 161/5 in 20 overs.

After early setbacks left Scotland struggling at 37/2, the Bryce sisters rebuilt the innings with composure and authority. Sarah narrowly missed out on a half-century, falling for a well-compiled 49, while Kathryn accelerated at the perfect moment to put Ireland under pressure.

In response, Ireland Women’s chase began with intent but quickly lost momentum despite a solid start from Amy Hunter and captain Gaby Lewis. Hunter impressed with a composed 39 off 36 balls, but Scotland struck at regular intervals to keep the required rate climbing.

The turning point came through Scotland’s spin attack. Katherine Fraser produced a crucial breakthrough to remove Lewis, before dismantling Ireland’s middle order with key strikes that triggered a collapse.

However, it was left-arm spinner Kirstie Gordon who delivered the decisive spell. Her sensational over accounted for three wickets for just 16 runs, including back-to-back dismissals that broke Ireland’s resistance and shifted full control to Scotland.

Ireland slipped dramatically from 68/3 to 70/6, a collapse from which they never recovered. Despite a fighting 33 off 23 balls from Orla Prendergast, the chase ended at 121 all out in 19.2 overs.

Scotland’s disciplined bowling effort, led by Gordon and Fraser with three wickets each, sealed a historic victory — one that not only opens their campaign in style but also marks a defining milestone in their Women’s T20 World Cup journey.

With momentum firmly on their side, Scotland now look ahead with renewed confidence after breaking new ground on the global stage.
